Vive la différence Impulse vs Real PEMF
PEMF – What is it?
Different companies and individuals have come up with different names for the two technologies. The names and their uses can be somewhat blurry and are often misused by some people in this field. You will see words like hummer, oscillator, ringer, impulse, spark gap, and a few others. I will try and explain the differences.
Real PEMF
Real PEMF systems generate true MAGNETIC pulses and are quite different to the impulse systems which generate very short peaks of energy. Real PEMF systems treat the cause of the problem while impulse systems for the most part treat the symptoms.
There are advantages and disadvantages to both technologies. We’ll list those later in this post.
Impulse
Impulse systems generate peaks of electrical energy that can be felt when these peaks cause our nerves to react and our muscles to flinch or react.
It’s unfortunate that both systems are called PEMF because they are really quite different. Our FLASH system is a programmable electronic impulse system and is quite unique.
Confusion Reigns!
What the heck is PEMF anyway? What are the different kinds of PEMF? the choice may not be obvious at first so let me try and guide you to an optimal solution for you. It may not be the only solution but for you, however, it may be the best choice. Let’s look at who you are and your needs?
First! IMPULSE OR REAL PEMF
First of all, let’s look at IMPULSE vs REAL PEMF. Most home users do not select the IMPULSE or RINGER systems for their use. These systems do provide very quick pain relief but do not offer the treatment of the underlying condition(s), so if one is looking heal the problem then the REAL PEMF system (Curatron 2000 Family) is the right choice. If you’re in a clinical environment then the choices become a little blurry.
Home Users
The home user needs a system for his or her personal use and probably does not want the complexity of the additional software that’s available with the Curatron 2000 PC or Curatron 2000 3D.
We have sold many PC and 3D systems to home users, but those sales tend to be the exception, not the rule. The two most popular options are the Curatron 2000 HT or the Curatron 2000 XPSE. The HT is less expensive but is more limited as far as options are concerned and roughly one-half of the intensity of the XPSE.
If budget is not an issue, then the XPSE is definitely the better choice.
If you are a home user then please consider the
- Curatron 2000 HT (Effective but has limited options)
- Curatron 2000 XPSE (Very effective, higher intensity and has optional applicators with intensity up to 1000 Gauss)

Clinical Users
The clinician really should have both technologies in his or her practice. The FLASH impulse system provides immediate relief now and when a patient is in pain, an impulse system can provide very quick relief.
The Real PEMF system, such as our CURATRON treats the underlying issues rather than just the symptoms. The impulse system does numb the nerves transmitting the pain to the brain while the REAL Pemf system helps reduce the inflammation, improve blood flow and reduce the pain. The pain reduction does take a little longer but the effect of Real PEMF has long lasting results.
Most chiropractors and clinics prefer the Curatron 2000 PC or Curatron 2000 3D as these systems can be controlled with a PC or MAC and offer over 100 built in protocols for various conditions as well as patient logs to record dates and treatments completed.
